Sarah Jane & Margaret "Maggie" PETITPAS
A photo lot (including this tintype) was purchased on eBay. The following is info I received from the seller: "All of the photos you've recently purchased were in one collection and the Petitpas photos are the last of the collection. We bought the collection in a local auction in Dallas, Texas. Now, how they got from Nova Scotia to Dallas is anyone's guess. Sorry I don't know any further background on them or who they originally belonged to. I'm going to send you the Colford outdoor photo as well."
The photos of children in the collection (all tintypes) were named Sarah & Maggie Petitpas, George F (or R?), Ellen Petitpas & little Lizz Petitpas. The related adult tintype was of Ellen Petitpas. It was obvious that the photos were all from the same old photo album (size, age & condition of pages; shape of windows, gilding & pattern cutting of edges).
A family in NS was found whose members included all the names mentioned above and in the correct birth order except that Ellen and little Lizz were reversed. The endearing term "little Lizz" suggested the possibility of an early death which turned out to be correct. Little Lizz died at the age of 10 days so could not be the child labeled as such, who was older than that, but could have been the baby labeled Ellen. The mother of these children was Ellen (Longard) Petitpas. The Colfords could have come into the family collection through Ellen's daughter Margaret's mother-in-law, Margaret (Colford) Pettipas.
Should you be able to confirm or refute this information & my deductions, please contact me with your evidence.
